Yes, I am also a writer. In fact, this blog is one of the ways I am using to keep up with my writing.
I have not completed a book yet, but there is always hope. A friend of mine threatened to get me to write her book for her, but she says she's not quite organized yet. And I tell her, I don't have the time yet. :-)
Right now I have three books on the go: a silly novel entitled Jacques & Dionne; a survival book on how to survive the first years as a small school principal; and this new book I have begun entitled Leadership. I keep journals with each book in mind and I write snippets of what it is like to be there, ideas for content, and resources I will use at some point. I promise myself that one of these summers, I will sit down and actually flesh out these books and get them to the point where I would publish them.
Back to the new book!
I am involved in a leadership course with other principals looking for ways to improve their schools and it has already been quite useful for me. The first part had us reading a book called "Leadership Challenge" by Kouzes & Posner and responding online in groups via email. The assignments we did were helpful in that they gave me a clearer sense of self, who I am as a leader, and they made me think of my strengths and weaknesses as a leader.
Then we got together for a two-day conference just yesterday and today, led by Warren Phillips and Bill Hoppins. Amazing fellows!
We began by looking at the 5 practices of leadership and the 7 standards of principalship!
Over the course of the last two days, I could see another book in the making.
So, I promptly went out and bought another journal, labeled it Book 2: Leadership, and began writing. Besides the journal on survival was full. :-)
I will keep you posted!
